In many grease lubricated bearings, periodic regreasing is required. The regreasing interval and quantity are a complex function of speed, operating temperature, shaft diameter etc. Over greasing can result in overheating, causing damage to seals, also sometimes resulting in grease to liquify prematurely Under greasing is a sure recipe for equipment failure. The simple solution is to install a LUBEX spring loaded grease feeder. This grease feeder has to be installed directly over the bearing housing in place of grease nipple. The grease feeder can be installed in any position i.e. straight, 45°, 90° or upside down by using a suitable adaptor.



How does LUBEX grease feeder work?
Fill grease in the grease feeder by a grease gun through a non-return valve (MW) in grease feeder. Grease pushes up the piston against a spring causing the spring to compress. A clear polycarbonate dome allows easy visibility of grease within the dome, also indicates when it is time to re-fill the grease feeder. Since there is no way you can see what is going on inside a bearing, bushing, pillow block, there is only guesswork, LUBEX dispenses right amount at right place all the time. Grease is discharged from LUBEX grease feeder base to the bearing at minimum pressure usually less than 2 psi. The bearing's natural venturi (vacuum) causes the grease to gradually flow into the bearing. This causes the bearing to use grease only as and when required. Grease is not forced or packed into the bearing. When the bearing or equipment stops the grease flow stops.

LUBEX grease feeders have only three moving parts viz. spring, a piston (Plunger) with a precision metering rod and an '0' ring. When grease is filled in the reservoir (Dome) ) the compressed spring exerts balanced pressure on the piston connected to the metering rod. Taper in the groove of the metering rod causes a change in discharge orifice area proportional to the decreasing spring pressure. Thus a constant discharge pressure is maintained. Three types of springs* are available to optimize discharge rate depending on the viscosity of grease ( NLGI 1,2,3,4,) and also to overcome resistance to grease flow depending on distance "L" between grease feeder and bearing. These grease feeders are not suitable for a distance "U' more than 250mm.

LUBEX grease feeder require a non separating grease, since it is our experience that in many conventional greases oil separates out from thickener under a constant spring pressure ER greases work satisfactorily. To fix these grease feeders it may be necessary to use adaptors as shown below. The end connection size needs to be specified.

In many oil lubricated machines, it is essential to maintain a constant level of oil to properly lubricate machine elements in motion. Excessive oil level increases resistance resulting in higher oil temperature This causes faster aging and breakage of oil seals, which means frequent oil leakages. Low oil level is a sure recipe for equipment failure.

Generally, a constant level of oil is required wherever 'SPLASH' lubrication technique is employed. In this system of lubrication rotating element causes a 'splash' due to its rotation and this splashed lubricant, in turn, lubricates all other machine elements within the system. Splashing would occur if part of the rotating element is in oil and part is above the oil. The right answer is to install an efficient, reliable constant level oiler. 'LUBEX' constant level oiler consists of a polycarbonate (PC) dome with suitable aluminum alloy base and elbow to fit your equipment. PC has the advantage of extraordinary impact strength (virtually unbreakable), excellent clarity, and good temperature range (110 ° c). A lock nut facilitates keeping the oiler upright without an overtightening elbow. The PC dome is threaded and can be cleaned periodically if required. The entire design is totally modular, thus any individual component of the oiler can be replaced at any point of time.

The working principle of 'LUBEX' constant level oiler is extremely simple. As and when oil level falls below level 'x' air passage is opened, you will notice bubbling taking place within PC dome. Oil flows from PC dome into the machine causing the oil level to rise within the machine. The moment oil level in the equipment reaches level 'x' air passage is blocked bubbling stops and oil from PC dome stops going into the machine. Thus oil in PC dome goes on decreasing, but oil within the machine is maintained at a constant level. Oil can be recharged in PC dome at any point of time by simply unscrewing the base and refilling PC dome with an oil can. The product is designed and manufactured to last for several years, an excellent investment for oil lubricated machines requiring a constant level of oil.

Drip oilers provide a convenient and economical method of lubricating bush bearings; machine slides etc. The oiler dispenses oil by gravity from a reservoir through a needle valve with a manual shut off. The operator can set the drip rate by simply adjusting a sensitive needle valve and viewing the drip rate in sight glass. Once the drop rate has been set, it should be locked. A suitable locking nut is provided for this purpose. On/off is by means of a toggle pin.

The oil reservoir is made of polycarbonate which facilitates easy visual check of the oil level. polycarbonate also has the advantage of high impact strength, excellent clarity, and good temperature stability. These drip oiler could conveniently replace existing glass type drip oilers which are prone to breakage. The use of a brush for chain oiling is the most effective and reliable method for lubricating chains moving at low/medium speeds. As a chain enters and leaves the sprocket there is a relative motion between pin and bushing of the chain. Wear at these points causes elongation decreasing both chain life and efficiency.

By maintaining a film of oil between pin and bushing of the chain, wear can be reduced considerably. Flexible brush follows the contour of the chain applying oil to essential joints. Brush also cleans external dirt, particles etc. The flexible brush is fixed to LUBEX Drip oiler wherein drip rate can be ‘set’ by means of a needle valve. All other features are same as LUBEX Drip oilers.

In any oil lubricated machine, it is critical to know the quality of oil within the machine. presently there is considerable guesswork in this area. this means oil is changed at regular interval/ without actually knowing whether it is o.k. or not.

Lubex oil sampler (os) is a simple device to be installed in the drain of the machine. a ball valve is provided and a sampling bottle is fixed after the ball valve. the bottle is threaded and can be opened. whenever you wish to check the oil quality, all you need to do is slightly open the valve and fill the oil in the sampler. once the bottle is full you need to close the valve. the material of the bottle is p.c. which has excellent clarity and does not break easily. you can open the bottle, fix a cap and send it for testing. capacity is 75ml or 100ml. the cap is removed, a funnel-like adapter is fixed on the bottle. this help to pour the oil in a container. collected oil sample can be put for testing, sludge, viscosity, moisture, any other procedure specified by the machine manufacturer.

The collected oil sample can be tested for the following : -
  • Total Dissolved Solids: there should be no sludge or particulate matter in the oil. this can be tested by passing collected oil through a filter paper & funnel. metal debris can cause accelerated wear of moving elements.
  • Viscosity: this can be checked by a viscometer or ford b4 cup. this is as per is:3944. the time taken for the b4 cup to get empty is the viscosity. the viscosity of the oil sample should be +10% of the original valve. e.g. see 90 should be 82-98. oil viscosity generally changes with the passage of time.
  • Moisture: moisture in oil will cause lots of problems to bearings & other components. moisture in oil should be zero. moisture in oil can easily be checked by performing a cracking test. the collected oil sample is put in a crucible and heated up to 100 Degree C. you will observe a cracking sound if there is moisture, otherwise, there will be no sound even at 100 Degree C. it can also be tested by adding toluene to the oil sample. the routine will make the oil having moisture, translucent. i.e. milky white. otherwise, there will be no change in color you can perform these basic tests in your own workshop or in a lab within your works.

You may need to buy a ford b4 cup, other facilities are generally available in a lab. based on these three criterions, you can decide to change the oil, or centrifuge it, to reuse the oil. with this device, in a position, you can monitor oil quality online on a real-time basis. no guesswork.
